The Challenge

Bringing this hospital’s existing open-heart operating room up to current standards with the addition of state-of-the-art equipment required us to work on a condensed scheduled, as the space could not be used during renovations. In addition, limited ceiling space made it challenging to accommodate new booms with lighting for surgeons.

Infection Control, HVAC and Electrical Upgrades
Renovating this critical operating room quickly and efficiently required detailed planning. One crucial component was infection control. We installed surgical-grade anti-microbial lighting equipment and designed the HVAC system to provide a minimum of 21 air changes per hour, resulting in positive air pressure and a cleanliness level equivalent to ISO class 8. We also upgraded the electrical system with isolation panels to meet code, designed a new carbon dioxide manifold room and extended medical gases to new, state-of-the-art surgical booms
