Designing a New Dialysis Treatment Center
THE CHALLENGE The Proctor Professional Building needed to renovate its existing basement space into a new dialysis treatment center. The ceiling height brought challenges, as
OSF Holy Family Medical Center needed to replace their existing, aging emergency department with a new, fully modernized ED. However, the existing ED needed to remain operational for patients while the new one was being constructed. This added complexity, as certain equipment was to be moved to serve the new space but was also still serving the old ED at the time. Another challenge with this project was that many hospital spaces require specialized HVAC and electrical system designs due to specific pressure, temperature, and emergency power requirements.
We designed the systems to accommodate each specific space within the ED, ensuring correct pressures, temperatures, and emergency power. We created project phases to allow the old emergency department to remain functional up until the equipment was switched over to the new ED. As a result of the renovation, Holy Family Medical Center now has a state-of-the-art emergency department, meeting current code requirements, and ensuring the highest quality of care.
