St. Anthony Medical Center’s linear accelerator was newly upgraded; however, the system’s dedicated chiller was at the end of its life and was beginning to have performance issues. Adding to the project complexity, the chiller was housed in the mechanical room and was much too large to be removed through the door. The project also consisted of space constraints for utilities.
We overcame the utility space constraints through detailed coordination. In order to replace the chiller, we determined that the best solution was to demolish the wall to the mechanical room and then replace it following the removal of the old chiller. Our designs included a state-of-the-art, dedicated chiller to replace the aging one, modernizing the entire system and mitigating all previous functionality issues. As a result of the project, St. Anthony’s linear accelerator treatment now operates seamlessly and should for years to come.
