Alliant Energy Agriculture Innovation Lab

Designing a Multi-Purpose Facility for Innovation in Agricultural Technology

The Challenge

This project required the full design of a new 85,000 square foot facility at the Iowa State University Research Park for Digital Ag, combining office, lab, and high bay workspace into a single cohesive environment. A key challenge was balancing the project budget while still maximizing functionality across a wide range of space types, including large areas that required minimal conditioning and others that demanded
more specialized systems. Additional complexity included integrating snorkel exhaust systems for safety in fabrication areas, as well as incorporating user-friendly AV and technology systems that support collaboration and day-to-day operations.

KEDbluestone Solution

KEDbluestone provided full MEP and technology engineering services, delivering a tailored design that aligned system performance with each space’s specific use. The team developed efficient strategies for conditioning large work areas, incorporated specialized exhaust systems where needed, and ensured all systems worked cohesively within the overall design build approach. By coordinating closely with project partners and prioritizing practical, user focused solutions, KEDbluestone delivered a flexible, purpose-built facility that enables Digital Ag to operate independently and continue advancing innovation in agricultural technology.
