The Challenge

The replacement of the fire alarm system across eleven buildings on the Clarinda campus posed several challenges due to the diverse range of building sizes, occupancies (including healthcare, education, and residential), and the varying ages of the structures, with the oldest dating back to 1884. The lack of existing CAD and fire alarm drawings made it necessary to conduct extensive field examinations to verify building layouts and document the current fire alarm system. These complications, combined with budget and schedule constraints, added pressure to the project.

KEDbluestone Solution

To address these challenges, our team conducted thorough field assessments to create accurate CAD drawings of the existing buildings, which were also provided to the owner for future reference. We implemented an advanced, integrated fire alarm system with eight addressable panels connected over a fiber network, ensuring comprehensive coverage with modern detection and notification devices. Despite the project being slightly over budget and behind schedule, our design team coordinated closely with the contractor to maintain progress and deliver a high-quality solution.
