The Challenge

El Paso Park District needed to build a new recreation center. The park district requested that the new facility include four multi-purpose gymnasium courts, a lobby area, office support spaces, restrooms, and concessions. The park district chose a pre-engineered building, requiring MEP systems to be designed within the confines of the existing structure, adding complexity to the project.

KEDbluestone Solution

We designed the MEP systems to accommodate the individual needs of each space, while designing within the structural confines of the building. We designed the gym space to incorporate two dedicated rooftop units (RTUs), ensuring temperature and humidity control. The gym HVAC system also included DuctSox, a fabric ductwork specifically designed for athletic spaces. The lobby, offices, restrooms, and concessions were designed to have a separate, dedicated rooftop unit (RTU), ensuring they would maintain a comfortable temperature independent of the gym’s temperature. As a result, El Paso Park District now has a new, modernized facility that will accommodate all of the community’s athletic programs and events.
