The Challenge

ICC needed to expand its chemistry and organic chemistry labs to accommodate a growing student population. Routing the required utilities, ductwork and piping in a poured concrete building with tight floor-to-floor elevations made coordination across disciplines essential.

KEDbluestone Solution

By improving the architectural layout of the space, we created six new chemistry work stations, each delivering natural gas, vacuum and compressed air, hot and cold water, and acid waste capabilities for student experimentation. Two snorkel exhausts remove chemical fumes from each station. We also installed new fume hoods with adjacent vented chemical storage cabinets in both labs—including a dedicated make-up air unit for the organic chemistry lab—as well as all new lighting, overhead projection screens and smart boards.
