The Challenge

Tiskilwa Public Library was built in 1908 and was no longer meeting the needs of its community. The existing library was not ADA accessible, not large enough for community meetings, and was cosmetically outdated. Both an addition and renovation were necessary to resolve these issues. Also, the owner requested we house all mechanical equipment in the original side of the library, to leave more free space in the addition, putting tight spatial constraints on the system designs and the mechanical room layout.

KEDbluestone Solution

We overcame the spatial constraints by re-arranging the mechanical room. We designed the furnaces to lay horizontally instead of vertically, allowing all necessary equipment to fit in the original library, meeting the owner’s request. We designed all new MEP systems for the addition, helping to bring the client’s ideas to fruition. As a result, 3,600 square feet of modernized, ADA accessible space was added, providing a space to hold community meetings, and allowing accessibility for all.
