KEDbluestone took on the complex challenge of renovating the historic 57,000-square-foot 4-H Exhibition Building on the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Originally constructed in 1939, this building required substantial updates to transform it into a contemporary, fully functional exhibition hall, all while preserving its unique historic architecture. The design needed to carefully balance functionality to support various events while maintaining the character and legacy of this well-known fairgrounds structure.
To accomplish this, KEDbluestone delivered a comprehensive MEPT overhaul, which included adding a full-sized commercial kitchen, four adaptable classrooms, and ample storage to meet the needs of diverse events. Now fully upgraded, the space provides a flexible, operational venue capable of hosting everything from book fairs to 4-H competitions year-round. This project ensures the building’s legacy is honored while positioning it as a central attraction on the fairgrounds for future generations.
We will be glad to answer your questions.
