The project presented several challenges, including the extensive damage caused by the 2008 flood and the need to repurpose the historic Cedar Rapids City Hall into a modern museum, auditorium, restaurant, and office space. The design required replacing the entire HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and technology infrastructure while ensuring compliance with historic preservation guidelines to qualify for tax credits. Special attention had to be given to the museum’s HVAC system to maintain strict temperature and humidity control, while a commercial kitchen was also added to support the restaurant and catering needs.
KEDbluestone successfully addressed these challenges by carefully designing and upgrading the mechanical, electrical, and technology systems to meet modern standards while preserving the building’s historic integrity. Our team incorporated specialized HVAC systems for the museum’s climate control and integrated a new commercial kitchen without compromising the building’s historic features. By working closely with the client and ensuring the project met the requirements for historic tax credits, we delivered a fully functional and modernized space that respected the building’s legacy.
We will be glad to answer your questions.
